Deaf Safari Day-Denver Zoo

On May 1, six deaf/hard of hearing students and our teacher of the deaf/hard of hearing, Tessa Heller, participated in the Deaf Safari Day at the Denver Zoo.  This event provided students and their families free admission along with demonstrations in American Sign Language (ASL) and many vendor exhibits related to deaf culture and awareness.  Northeast Colorado BOCES offers a field trip to deaf/hard of hearing students every year in order to provide these students with positive role models, like peers, and exposure to deaf/hard of hearing culture.  A sincere thank you goes to RE-1 Valley School District for providing transportation and to Deb and Callie Dickerson for joining us as volunteers.
